Police Chief
City of San Luis Obispo

The California Central Coast community of San Luis Obispo (pop. 44,697) is seeking a
new Police Chief. The San Luis Obispo Police Department (SLOPD) is supported by 57
sworn and 26.5 non-sworn staff. SLOPD is organized across two Bureaus – Operations
and Administrative Services. Each Bureau is overseen by a Captain.

The City is desirous of attracting community focused policing professionals who are well
versed in contemporary approaches to resource management, service delivery and
collaborative stakeholder engagement. Ideal candidates will be superior
communicators and possess a balance of operations and administrative experience.

Five years of command level management experience in a local law enforcement
setting and a Bachelor’s degree are required. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.

Salary range goes up to $160,394 and is currently under review. Salary is
supplemented by an attractive benefits package that includes CalPERS 3% @ 50
retirement. This recruitment will close just prior to midnight on Sunday, October 9,
2011.
