Lakeland, Florida, is seeking a new Police Chief. With a population of more than 100,000 residents, the City of Lakeland is situated between Tampa and Orlando.

Lakeland operates under a Commission-Manager form of government. The City has more than 2,700 employees and the FY 2013-2014 budget is approximately $537 million. The Police Chief reports to the City Manager. The department is comprised of 227 sworn officers (1 Chief, 3 Assistant Chiefs, 4 Captains, 11 Lieutenants, 35 Sergeants and 173 Officers) and 117 civilian personnel and has a FY2014 budget of $38.3 million.

Bachelor’s degree and experience as a Chief, Deputy Chief, or Assistant Chief in a comparable department with a demonstrated progressively responsible career trajectory required. Master’s degree preferred. Florida experience and experience in CALEA and State accredited police agencies and work in a police department with union representation desired. Must possess FDLE certification as a law enforcement officer, or obtain certification within 9 months of appointment.
